Heaven Hill began in Bardstown in 1935, when local investors and the five Shapira brothers founded the Old Heaven Hill Springs Distillery. Its first barrel was filled that December. Three generations of the Shapira family have led the business.
A fire destroyed the original Bardstown distillery in 1996, and Heaven Hill acquired Bernheim Distillery in Louisville in 1999. The opening of the new Heaven Hill Springs Distillery in 2025 brought the company’s distilling back to Bardstown, alongside its Louisville operation. Its American-whiskey range includes Bottled-in-Bond whiskeys.
