AboutHarper's Trail Estate Winery
Harper’s Trail Estate Winery was founded by Ed and Vicki Collett, who bought their Kamloops property in 2007, planted vines in 2008 and produced their first vintage in 2011. It was Kamloops’ first winery, named for the nineteenth-century cattle-ranching trail associated with Thaddeus Harper. Its Thadd Springs Vineyard lay on a bench above the South Thompson River, in a landscape of limestone, sage, bunchgrass and hoodoos.
The Colletts focused on cool-climate, estate-grown wines, using cover crops and practices influenced by organic and biodynamic farming. Riesling, Chardonnay and Pinot Gris were central to the range. The winery closed after its final season in 2023, when the Colletts retired.
Harper’s Trail 2019 Field Blend White
Peach, citrus and mandarin orange shape the youthful aromas. The dry palate is smooth and round, with medium body, ripe stone fruit, lime zest and a mineral note. The finish brings lime peel and mouthwatering acidity. This British Columbia white combines Pinot Gris, Riesling and Chardonnay, with the fruit grown at Thadd Springs Vineyard in Kamloops.
Harper’s Trail 2021 Silver Mane Block Riesling
Light straw colour accompanies citrus, peach and vanilla aromas. Key lime, white peach, green apple and mineral notes appear on the off-dry palate, which has a full mouthfeel, acidity and a long finish. The vineyard lies near Kamloops on the South Thompson River, amid limestone and hills of sage and grass. The wine contains twelve-point-two percent alcohol.
