AboutGreenock Creek Wines
On the Barossa’s western edge, Greenock Creek Wines traces its modern story to 1984, when stonemason Michael Waugh began making wine from old dry-grown, low-yielding vineyards. It makes single-vineyard wines from Marananga, Seppeltsfield and Moppa, with its winery and cellar door in Marananga.
Fruit is handpicked and handled in small lots, fermented in open-top concrete vessels and basket-pressed before going to oak. Since Alex Peel joined as chief winemaker in 2018, the estate has introduced cooler fermentations, gentler pressing and changes to its oak selection.
Greenock Creek Wines 1997 Roennfeldt Road Shiraz
Australian Red
Blackberry liqueur, blackcurrant and blueberry lead, with truffle, earth, smoke and a touch of vanilla adding depth. The palate is full-bodied and concentrated, its rich fruit carried by integrated tannins and a remarkably long, balanced finish. Decant carefully and pair with braised beef, roast lamb or aged hard cheese.
