AboutGiesen

The three Giesen brothers—Theo, Alex and Marcel—came from a German agricultural family and moved to New Zealand in 1979. Theo and Alex planted their first vineyard outside Christchurch in 1981, while Marcel trained in winemaking before joining them; their debut vintage arrived in 1984. That debut included Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc, beginning a relationship with the region that deepened with Dillon’s Point vineyard in 1993 and a Marlborough winery in 2000.

Giesen began developing its organic vineyard programme in 2009 and bought Clayvin Vineyard in 2015. The brothers remain involved, and the winery uses small trial batches to explore new methods and styles.
