AboutGeographic Wines Portugal
Nuno Morais Vaz and Daniela Matias founded Geographic Wines Portugal to explore the country’s different wine regions. Nuno’s background is in the Douro, while Daniela trained in winemaking and favours a low-intervention approach in the cellar. Their work spans the Douro, Vinho Verde and Bairrada.
Fruit from each vineyard parcel is made into wine separately. Cellar work includes fermentation with native yeasts, gentle pressing, extended contact with the grape skins and time on the lees, without added enzymes or acid.
Geographic Wines 2022 Landcraft Alvarinho
Made entirely from Alvarinho grown on granitic and alluvial soils, the grapes are hand-harvested. Winemaking includes twelve hours of pre-fermentative maceration and spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts at controlled temperature. Ageing lasts eight months on full lees with periodic bâtonnage. Floral and citrus notes accompany a hint of dried fruit, with acidity, freshness and a persistent finish.
