Gemstone Vineyard

Gemstone Vineyard began with a geologist’s search for a vineyard site, which led to a 16-acre property on Yountville’s alluvial ground in 1992. Estate-grown Cabernet Sauvignon has been produced here since 1997.

The vineyard is divided into 20 small blocks, with eight Cabernet Sauvignon clones, two Merlot selections and smaller parcels of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Volcanic deposits over sandstone, gravel and river stones make up the soils on its gentle western slope. Julien Fayard makes the estate’s Cabernet Sauvignon, and the vines are tended by hand.
