AboutGarage Wine Co.
Garage Wine Company began literally in a garage, where Pilar Miranda and Derek Mossman made several vintages for family and friends before sending their first commercial wines to the United Kingdom and Denmark in 2006. The company formed long-term relationships with small farmers tending old, dry-farmed vineyards planted with mixed grape varieties in Maule and Itata. Its parcel wines carry individual lot numbers.
Some vineyards are worked with horse and plough, and wines are fermented with native yeasts in small, separately handled lots. After Chile’s 2010 earthquake, the team also helped create a grower-focused initiative intended to keep traditional vineyards commercially viable.
Garage Wine Co. 2019 Isidore Vineyard Semillon
Amber in colour, with lemon, candle wax and bee pollen on the nose, plus a floral, orange-toned lift that adds complexity. Lemon juice, candied peel, white flowers and honey follow on a dry palate. High acidity and a faint chalky grip keep the skin-contact Semillon mouthwatering, layered and expansive with air.
Garage Wine Co. 2018 Phoenix País-Carignan
An unusual pale wine with white peach, rose hip and tangerine, joined by tart cranberry and a light floral note. The palate is vivid and fresh, with tangy citrus, gentle salinity and a subtle bitter-almond edge giving it shape. Distinctive but approachable, it works well with cured fish, grilled vegetables, fresh cheese or lightly spiced dishes.
