AboutCastello di Gabbiano
The vaulted wine cellars at Castello di Gabbiano in Chianti Classico began taking shape in 1124. The Bardi banking family enlarged the medieval fortress, and the Soderini later reshaped it as an agricultural estate. Today 165 hectares of vines lie chiefly around San Casciano in Val di Pesa, with additional parcels at San Donato in Poggio.
Sangiovese accounts for roughly 85 percent of the plantings, rooted in clay, limestone and stony ground, while selected international and native varieties broaden the cellar’s palette. Planting choices, yield control and canopy work aim to produce healthy, evenly ripe grapes. Modern winemaking equipment sits alongside large casks and barriques in the restored vaulted cellars.
Gabbiano 2019 Alleanza Toscana IGT
Rich ruby with purple reflections, offering fresh red currant and a light touch of sweet chocolate. The palate is smooth and evenly fruited, with currant returning at the centre. The balance is measured rather than heavy, carrying clean red-fruit flavour and subtle cocoa through fine tannins to a long finish.
