Château Fonréaud
Château Fonréaud
AboutChâteau Fonréaud
Château Fonréaud stands on the Puy de Menjon at 43 metres. Seventeenth-century cellars anchor the property, while the château itself dates to the middle of the nineteenth century. The Chanfreau family arrived in 1962, when Léo Chanfreau took on a tired 17-hectare vineyard and began the long work of replanting vines, rebuilding cellars and restoring the house.
Today Guillaume and Loïc Chanfreau continue that family stewardship. The estate’s red wines draw on Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot grown on gravelly slopes over clay-limestone subsoils. The reds are vinified parcel by parcel and aged in barrel.

Blackcurrant, dark cherry and plum open with violet, spice and a measured note of oak. The palate is dense and rounded, its ripe fruit held by velvety tannins and bright acidity. A savoury, gently roasted edge carries into the long, spicy finish.
