AboutEast African Breweries

East African Breweries began in Nairobi in 1922 as Kenya Breweries, founded by brothers George and Charles Hurst. Its flagship Kenyan lager, Tusker, was named after George was killed by an elephant in 1923. The business adopted the East African Breweries name in 1936 as its reach widened beyond Kenya.

Today it operates breweries and drinks businesses across Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania. Its agricultural and environmental programmes support locally grown grain and work to reduce water use, energy consumption and emissions.
