Duncan Taylor began in Glasgow in 1938 as a cask broker and trading company, building a substantial inventory of mature Scotch whisky over the decades that followed. Euan Shand acquired the company and its stocks in 2001, establishing the modern operation in his home town of Huntly in Aberdeenshire.
The Huntly team stores and bottles whisky and has in-house coopers to look after its casks. Its releases include single malts, single grains, blended malts and blended Scotch. Duncan Taylor revived Black Bull in 2009, a blended Scotch name first registered in 1864.

Gentle and approachable, with orange marmalade, barley sugar and soft floral notes opening into lemon curd, apple skin and almond butter. The palate has a creamy texture, while dry oak and a light thread of spice keep the sweetness neatly contained. Dry, earthy smoke arrives first, opening into dark malt, orchard fruit and layers of toffee sweetness. A high proportion of malt whisky gives the blend a robust, full-bodied centre, while grain whisky keeps the texture composed and approachable. Salted nuts and citrus bring contrast through the middle, followed by burnt oak and measured spice. The finish is long and warming, carrying sweet-and-salty balance, baked apple and lingering smoky embers. Enjoy neat or with a small splash of water to release the fruit beneath the peat.
