AboutDomaine Pierre Usseglio & Fils
Francis Usseglio arrived in Châteauneuf-du-Pape from Piedmont in 1931 and gathered his first harvest from a sharecropped estate in 1949. His son Pierre expanded the property, followed by Jean-Pierre and Thierry and their families. A fourth generation is now involved in the domaine.
The estate has vineyards in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Lirac and the wider southern Rhône, including old-vine parcels. Grapes are harvested by hand and sorted in the vineyard and cellar; ageing in concrete or wood is chosen to suit each wine.
Domaine Pierre Usseglio & Fils Cuvée de Mon Aïeul 2012 Châteauneuf-du-Pape
French
Lush red fruit and bramble open with black pepper, garrigue and warm spice. With air, plum, black cherry, leather and sandalwood broaden the aromatic profile. The palate is full-bodied and velvety, with integrated tannins and enough acidity to keep the ripe fruit measured. Liquorice and roasted herbs add savoury depth, while a saline edge brings focus. The finish is long and layered, carrying cherry, spice and Provençal herbs.
