AboutDomaine Pierre Gaillard

Pierre and Pascale Gaillard arrived at Malleval in 1981 and began by clearing and planting the Clos de Cuminaille hillside in Saint-Joseph. The domaine grew to about twenty-five hectares across six northern Rhône appellations, including Côte-Rôtie, Condrieu, Cornas and Saint-Péray. Pierre now works alongside the couple’s three children.

Syrah leads the plantings, with Viognier, Marsanne and Roussanne grown for the whites. The steep vineyards require extensive work by hand, and vineyard and cellar decisions are made for each parcel and wine.

Domaine Pierre Gaillard 2017 Côte-Rôtie Esprit de Blonde

French
$159.99
Ripe red and dark fruit open with warm spice and a gentle toasted note. The palate is dense yet balanced, framed by silky tannins and an aromatic thread of truffle, pepper and savoury earth. Oak is integrated, supporting the fruit rather than covering it, and the finish remains persistent and poised. Decant before serving with venison, roast lamb, beef, mushrooms or dishes built around black olives.
