AboutDesnoes & Geddes Limited
Desnoes & Geddes was formed in Kingston in 1918 when Eugene Desnoes and Thomas Hargreaves Geddes brought their soft-drink businesses together. Beer production began at Surrey Brewery in 1927, followed by a purpose-built brewery at Hunts Bay in 1958.
The brewery’s first Red Stripe beer appeared in 1928, followed in 1934 by the light-golden lager developed by Paul Geddes and Bill Martindale. Red Stripe’s short brown bottle was introduced in 1971. Heineken became the company’s majority shareholder in 2015.
Desnoes & Geddes Dragon Jamaican Stout
Dark and full-flavoured, this Jamaican stout opens with roasted malt, smoke and caramel before moving into a rich, rounded palate. A measured sweetness gives the beer depth, while the roasted character keeps the finish balanced and defined. Serve cool rather than icy with jerk chicken, braised beef, aged Stilton, grilled mushrooms, fruitcake or dark chocolate.
Red Stripe Jamaican Lager 6-Pack
Full-bodied and crisp, this refreshing Jamaican lager has a smooth post-palate sensation. The official product page records those three points directly and identifies the beer at four-point-seven per cent alcohol. A provincial listing adds bright-gold colour, a creamy head, grassy hops, cereal, malt, citrus and yeast aromas, plus an off-dry, light-bodied and clean profile for the lager.
