AboutDescendientes de J. Palacios
Álvaro Palacios and his nephew Ricardo Pérez Palacios established Descendientes de J. Palacios around Corullón in Bierzo in 1998; their first wine came from the 1999 harvest. Ricardo directs the winemaking, working with old Mencía vines across the estate’s steep sites.
Around Corullón, slate and clay soils, altitude and exposure vary over short distances. The estate vineyards are farmed biodynamically, with handwork and, on some slopes, mules. The winery also works with farming families elsewhere in Bierzo, alongside its own vineyards.

Spanish Red
Red fruit, violet flowers and black-pepper spice accompany a fleshy, light and fresh profile. The finish is juicy and vibrant. Old Mencía vines grow on steep, rocky slate soils, and the vineyards span several Bierzo municipalities. The grapes are partially destemmed and crushed. Maceration lasts thirty days. Fermentation takes place in wooden vats and open stainless-steel tanks, while ageing lasts ten months in French oak.
