AboutCulmina
Culmina took shape after Don and Elaine Triggs bought land south of Oliver in 2007 for a new estate on the Golden Mile Bench. Their daughter Sara joined in 2012, and the family chose a Latin-derived name meaning peak or apex. Arterra Wines Canada purchased the winery in 2019.
The vineyards occupy three adjoining benches: warm, rocky Arise for Bordeaux varieties, higher and cooler Margaret’s for aromatic whites, and Stan’s for both red and white grapes. The vineyards received organic certification from the Pacific Agriculture Certification Society in August 2021, after a three-year transition.
Culmina 2014 Merlot
Plum, cherry, blackberry, anise, sweet and savoury spices, and toasted oak form the profile of this Merlot. Ripe dark and red berries meet toasted vanilla spice in a supple, smooth texture. Fruit from Arise Bench on the Golden Mile Bench is bottled unfiltered and unfined. Maturation lasts sixteen months in French oak, with fifteen percent new barrels.
Culmina 2023 Decora Riesling
Daisies, dried apricot and toasted almond open with a subtle yeasty note. The palate is bright and energetic, with creamy texture rounding starfruit and fuzzy peach. A clean, dry line of acidity keeps the fruit precise, while chalky, flinty minerality gives the finish a focused, quietly persistent character.
Culmina 2020 Cabernet Sauvignon
Cassis and dark fruit lead, joined by sandalwood, clove, bay leaf and a distinctly Okanagan herbal edge. The palate is dense and savoury, with black pepper, firm structure and fine tannins extending the finish. A measured French-oak frame adds depth without covering the fruit. Serve with lamb, grilled beef, wild mushrooms or aged cheese.
Culmina 2019 Hypothesis
Truffle and stewed fruit open the nose, followed by fresh black fruit and a measured oak frame. The palate is clean and mineral, carrying its depth with definition rather than heaviness. A composed Bordeaux-style blend with firm structure and a dry finish, it suits roast beef, grilled lamb, braised short ribs, mushrooms or firm aged cheese.
Culmina 2018 Dilemma Chardonnay
Fresh apple and lime lead into a creamy, weighty Chardonnay shaped by a measured touch of oak. Butter and caramel add richness without overwhelming the fruit, while a firm acid line keeps the wine dry, balanced and composed. The finish is long and quietly generous. A natural match for creamy shrimp pasta, roast chicken or firm cheeses.
