Crown & Thieves opened in West Kelowna in January 2021 as a home for small-batch winemaking experiments. Unusual barrels could be kept out of larger blends and made into wines of their own.
The winery stands among vineyards in a four-storey building designed to look like a ruin, with the Broken Hearts Club speakeasy inside. Alongside wine tastings, the building hosts live music, comedy and cabaret.

Key lime, honeydew and orange blossom lead into ripe nectarine and tangerine. The palate is aromatic and easy-moving, with bright citrus freshness balancing the softer orchard and melon fruit. Serve well chilled with spicy dishes, grilled seafood or fresh cheeses.

Dark berries, black cherry and plum lead into cedar, cocoa and quiet spice. The palate is full-bodied and layered, with blackcurrant, bramble, dark chocolate and savoury herbs carried by firm but refined tannins. Toasted oak lingers through a long, smooth finish. Decant briefly and serve with grilled flank steak, lamb shank, mushroom ragu or aged cheddar.
