AboutChâteau La Nerthe

A deed from 1560 records the Tulle de Villefranche family’s purchase of Château La Nerthe, then known as Grange de Beauvenir. The estate began shipping wine in bottles in 1776. Commander Joseph Ducos bought the phylloxera-damaged estate in 1877 and became an early advocate of rebuilding its vines on resistant rootstock.

The Richard family bought La Nerthe in 1985 and added vineyards in La Crau in 1991. The estate gained Ecocert organic certification in 1998 and now comprises fifty-seven certified parcels across ninety-two hectares in Châteauneuf-du-Pape.

Burlat cherry, red berries, blackcurrant and licorice define the documented fruit profile. Thyme, olive, laurel and other garrigue notes add a savoury register. The palate balances liveliness with roundness, supported by delicate tannins and a minty finish. Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre form the recorded blend, giving the wine its combination of bright fruit, herbs and restrained structure.
