Château La Gaffelière
Château La Gaffelière
AboutChâteau La Gaffelière
Château La Gaffelière came into the Malet Roquefort family through marriage in 1705 and remains with the family today. Its vineyard holds traces of a much older past: a fourth-century Gallo-Roman villa, discovered in 1969, contained a mosaic of intertwined vines.
The vineyard for its principal wine covers twenty-two hectares between the Pavie and Ausone hills, including limestone plateau and clay-limestone slopes. Merlot makes up three-quarters of the plantings, with Cabernet Franc accounting for the rest. The grapes are harvested by hand and fermented in stainless-steel tanks.

French Red
Baked raspberry, kirsch and dried mulberry unfold with plum pudding, pencil shavings and forest floor. The palate is medium to full-bodied, layering ripe red, blue and black fruit over savoury earth and crushed-rock detail. Chewy tannins and well-knit freshness give the rich core precision, with an herbal lift on the finish.
