AboutChâteau La Fleur de Boüard

Hubert de Boüard founded Château La Fleur de Boüard in 1998, buying twenty-five hectares at Néac in Lalande-de-Pomerol. The vineyard has grown to twenty-nine hectares near the meeting of the Dordogne and Isle rivers. The vineyard combines clay over gravel on the Néac plateau with a second area of coarser gravel with less clay.

For its namesake red, a cold soak before fermentation is followed by gravity-fed winemaking and fifteen to eighteen months in barrel. The wine is neither fined nor filtered.

Black cherry and cassis lead, with ripe blackcurrant, dark plum and a restrained note of spice. Oyster shell and cold flint add a savoury mineral edge. The palate is medium-bodied, smooth and supple, its generous fruit held by structured yet polished tannins. Subtle vanilla and chocolate deepen the middle without overwhelming the fruit. The finish is long, rounded and composed, retaining freshness and fine mineral detail.
