Château Gros Caillou is a Saint-Émilion property whose estate history is recorded from 1880 in the appellation’s producer register. Jean-François Fonteneau began a major renewal of the property in 2017, addressing both the vineyard and the winery. The vines stand on sandy and gravelly soils within the wider Saint-Émilion landscape, and the estate works the traditional red Bordeaux varieties.

The Saint-Émilion Wine Council records the property as organically farmed. Renovation has been presented as a continuation of an existing estate, not as the creation of a new château or a rewritten founding date. Gros Caillou’s present work is rooted in its Saint-Émilion location, renewed vineyards and recorded organic farming.
