Château Carbonneau
AboutChâteau Carbonneau
Built from 1860, Château Carbonneau entered the Ray and Franc de Ferrière family in 1937. Jacquie and Wilfrid returned in 1992 to restore the property and replant the vineyards, bringing in their first estate harvest in 1996. They now work with their sons Pierre, who handles winemaking and farming, and Hugo, who leads sales and distribution.
The twenty-three-hectare vineyard lies on clay-limestone hills above the Dordogne at Pessac-sur-Dordogne. Blonde d’Aquitaine cattle are part of the farm too, providing manure for the vines.
Château Carbonneau 2020 Pur Jus Sainte-Foy Côtes de Bordeaux
Merlot and Malbec form this unoaked Bordeaux red. The fruit was destemmed and crushed, followed by a short cold maceration, fermentation at 26 degrees Celsius and regular pump-overs. Cherries, figs, blackcurrants and floral notes meet a soft, silky texture, medium body and velvety tannins. Fresh acidity supports the fruit, while alcohol is 14.5 percent. The wine was aged without oak to preserve freshness.
