AboutCatena Zapata
Nicola Catena planted the family’s first Malbec vineyard in Mendoza in 1902, beginning a four-generation Argentine wine story. Nicolás Catena Zapata later redirected the business toward fine wine and the possibilities of high-altitude viticulture. Adrianna Vineyard, planted at roughly 1,450 metres in Gualtallary, became a defining expression of that search.
Laura Catena is managing director and founded the Catena Institute of Wine in 1995. Its work examines altitude, soils, sunlight and vineyard microbiology to understand Mendoza’s growing conditions.
Catena 2024 Chardonnay
A high-altitude Chardonnay layered with citrus, peach and stone fruit, lifted by floral notes, mineral definition and bright acidity. Fermentation and maturation in French oak add breadth and a gently polished texture without overwhelming the fruit. Concentrated yet naturally balanced, it works beautifully with roast poultry, creamy seafood or firm cheeses.
Catena 2024 Appellation Agrelo Cabernet Sauvignon
The Agrelo vineyards have deep clay soils and a moderate climate. Cabernet Sauvignon makes up the wine entirely. Robust tannins are present, and the finish is smooth and lengthy. The wine is dry, red and classified as both Sustainable and Vegan. Fruit comes from historic family vineyards in Mendoza, where the family has worked with high-altitude viticulture for more than a century.
Catena Zapata 2020 Malbec Argentino
Made entirely from Malbec, with 20% whole clusters and 80% whole berries, the fruit is hand-loaded into new French-oak barrels. Fermentation lasts seventeen to twenty-eight days with wild yeast, low temperatures and manual cap management. Alcoholic and malolactic fermentation take place in barrel, followed by twelve to eighteen months in French oak. Fruit comes from Nicasia and Angélica vineyards.
Catena Zapata 2017 Adrianna Vineyard River Stones Malbec
Blackberry, cassis, violet and crushed stone lead a dark, highly aromatic profile, with wet earth and subtle spice adding depth. The palate is full and mouthfilling but remains fresh, its concentrated fruit shaped by integrated acidity and ultra-fine tannins. A stony, mineral texture gives the wine precision through a long finish, where black fruit, flowers and a savoury granitic note gradually return.
Catena Zapata 2020 Adrianna Vineyard Fortuna Terrae Malbec
Spicy black fruit and delicate flowers lead a highly aromatic nose, with plum, sour cherry, herbs and graphite adding detail. The palate is rounded and smooth yet precise, its ripe fruit supported by moderate acidity, fine grip and a chalky limestone impression. Freshness keeps the concentration poised through a long, mineral finish. Decant before serving with grilled lamb, braised beef or roasted eggplant.
Catena Zapata 2022 Appellation San Carlos Cabernet Franc
Focused and savoury, with ripe red berries, raspberry and cherry lifted by eucalyptus, paprika and black pepper. The medium-bodied palate is dry and vibrant, its firm but polished tannins giving shape to concentrated fruit and a subtle herbal edge. A smooth, persistent finish suits grilled beef, lamb, roasted peppers or mushroom dishes.
Catena Zapata 2020 La Marchigiana Criolla Chica
Pale and vividly fresh, with red cherry, strawberry skin and peach lifted by lemon zest, dried flowers and gentle savoury spice. The palate is light-bodied and dry, its crunchy acidity and supple texture landing somewhere between rosé and a delicate red. Serve lightly chilled with charcuterie, grilled vegetables or simple tomato dishes.
Catena 2021 White Clay Semillón-Chenin Blanc
Semillón and Chenin Blanc from Luján de Cuyo bring white flowers, citrus and stone fruit over a gently waxy texture. Bright acidity keeps the finish precise.
Catena Zapata 2020 Malbec Argentino
Blackberry and blueberry lead a dense, richly fruited profile, with savoury earth and gentle spice bringing contrast. The palate is powerful but polished, its ripe fruit carried by firm, fine-grained tannins rather than sheer weight. A fresh line keeps the concentration balanced. The finish is long and seamless, leaving dark berries, mineral depth and a quietly earthy note.
Catena Zapata 2018 Adrianna White Stones
From just 27 rows of a high-altitude parcel in Gualtallary, this Chardonnay is shaped by white-stone alluvial soils, cool nights and naturally low yields. Lime, orange blossom and restrained orchard fruit meet a precise mineral line, brisk acidity and a long, stony finish. Fermented in French oak with partial malolactic conversion, then aged 12-16 months in seasoned barrels, it remains finely textured rather than overtly oaky. Unfined and unfiltered.
