AboutCasa Ermelinda Freitas
Five generations of women have led Casa Ermelinda Freitas since Deonilde Freitas founded the Portuguese winery in 1920. After three decades at the helm, Leonor Freitas now shares its direction with her daughter Joana.
Most of the family’s 550 hectares of vineyards lie in Fernando Pó, in Palmela on the Setúbal Peninsula, where river breezes help cool the dry summers. The family also makes wine in the Douro and Vinho Verde.

Portuguese Dessert
Caramelized citrus pith and orange blossom lead an intensely aromatic nose, followed by honey, hazelnut and barley sugar. The palate is rich and very sweet, but a clean line of freshness keeps the finish composed rather than heavy. Serve lightly chilled with almond cake, orange desserts or blue cheese; it also works well lengthened with tonic.
