CARM

CARM—the initials of Casa Agrícola Roboredo Madeira—belongs to a family whose agricultural record in the Upper Douro reaches back to the mid-seventeenth century. Around Almendra, near the Côa Valley, the estate grows grapes, olives and almonds. The family has cultivated vines on these properties since the late nineteenth century. A planting in 1966 was followed by continuing vineyard renewal.

Organic production methods were introduced in 1995 and remain part of the approach across CARM’s rugged, schist-soiled properties. Traditional Douro varieties such as Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca and Tinta Roriz grow across vineyards with differing elevations and exposures.
