AboutBuffalo Trace Distillery

Buffalo Trace stands beside the Kentucky River in Frankfort, on a site once known as the O.F.C. Distillery and later the George T. Stagg Distillery. During Prohibition it held a permit to bottle medicinal whiskey and, for part of that period, to distil new spirit. Sazerac bought the distillery in 1992; it took the Buffalo Trace name in 1999 and became a National Historic Landmark in 2013.

For its bourbon, the distillery uses grain from Kentucky and Indiana, limestone water and copper stills, then matures the whiskey in new charred oak barrels. Some of its working warehouses date to the nineteenth century.

Traveller Whiskey Blend No. 40

American Whiskey
$59.99
Vanilla, aged fruit and buttery shortbread open a smooth, inviting profile, rounded by caramel and a light touch of oak. The palate carries restrained sweetness before moving into baking spice, toasted nuts and firmer wood notes. The texture is polished and easygoing, while the finish gains enough weight and spice to avoid feeling slight. Selected from an extensive series of trial blends at Buffalo Trace Distillery, it works neat, over ice or in a whiskey-forward cocktail such as an Old Fashioned.

Ancient Age Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey

American Whiskey
$129.99
Caramel and green apple open with cinnamon, vanilla and light oak. The palate is straightforward and gently sweet, bringing corn, honey and mixed fruit into balance with soft spice. The texture stays light and approachable rather than dense. The finish is clean and moderate, leaving toffee, citrus, vanilla and a final touch of warming oak.
