AboutChâteau Brown
Château Brown traces vines on its Léognan land to the twelfth century, though the estate took its present name much later. Scottish wine trader John-Lewis Brown acquired the property in 1795, built its country house and gave the château the name it still carries. After post-war decline and the loss of its vines, Brown began a sustained revival in the 1990s; the Mau and Dirkzwager families took over in 2004 and continued the rebuilding.
The estate now holds thirty-one hectares of vines in one block within Pessac-Léognan: twenty-six for red wine and five for white. Two gravel ridges, with clay and sand beneath, are planted with Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon. Parcels are kept separate in the cellar; the whites ferment in barrel and age on lees, while the reds mature before the final blend.

Floral notes and a light smoky note emerge after swirling. The palate is soft and fresh, with full body, aromatic density and further floral character. Sauvignon Blanc brings tension, and the finish is mineral, taut and very long. The blend is sixty-eight percent Sauvignon Blanc and thirty-two percent Sémillon. Grapes were harvested by hand, then fermented and matured in oak for eight months with stirring on fine lees.

Blackcurrant, blackberry and plum lead with cedar and a quiet earthy note. The palate is rich but polished, carrying ripe dark fruit over velvety tannins and a fresh savoury line. Light iron, red tea and restrained toast add detail without masking the fruit. The finish is refined and persistent, leaving cassis, earth, cedar and fine tannins.
