AboutBrouwerij 3 Fonteinen
Gaston and Raymonde Debelder took over the 3 Fonteinen pub in Beersel in 1953, raising their son Armand among lambic barrels and bottles of geuze. After years in the restaurant kitchen, Armand installed a small second-hand brewhouse in 1998 and devoted himself to brewing and blending in 2001.
A faulty thermostat destroyed much of the bottled stock in 2009, but surviving barrel-aged lambics helped the brewery recover. Michaël Blancquaert joined in 2010 and became part of the next generation to take the work forward. The brewery’s geuzes combine spontaneously fermented lambics of different ages, matured in barrels.
3 Fonteinen Oude Geuze Golden Blend 375 mL
One-, two- and three-year lambics are blended with at least one quarter four-year-old beer in this traditional gueuze. The blend ferments spontaneously, matures in oak barrels and continues to evolve after bottling. The documented profile is distinctively complex, with extended ageing and multiple lambic ages defining the composition of this Belgian release and its oak-aged framework.
