AboutBodega Cueva

Mariano Taberner makes Bodega Cueva’s wines in La Portera, a small Requena hamlet where an eighteenth-century cellar anchors the project. He arrived in the region without inherited vineyards or an established winery network, then became one of Valencia’s early advocates for natural wine. The old vaulted rooms now sit beside restored working spaces.

Cueva works with organically grown fruit from Utiel-Requena, giving particular attention to local Bobal and late-ripening Tardana. His wines are made without filtration.

Bodega Cueva 2018 Bobal & Marselan

Spanish Red
$49.99

Bobal and Marselan grow on limestone and are vinified in stainless steel. The cool-year red is medium-bodied and sleek, with freshness carried through the profile. Fermentation is spontaneous; the wine is bottled without fining, filtration or added sulphur. Ripe fruit, compote, liquorice, violet, cherry and cereal notes accompany a soft, balanced and rounded texture. Alcohol is 13.5 percent.
