AboutBodegas Bilbaínas

Bodegas Bilbaínas began in Haro’s Station Quarter, where Savignon Frères established a wine business in 1859 before Bilbao entrepreneurs created the present company in 1901. Co-founder Santiago de Ugarte created Viña Pomal, which had its first harvest in 1904.

The winery has extensive underground cellars and about 250 hectares of vineyards in Haro, including more than 130 hectares around the winery itself. Mayte Calvo de la Banda has led the winery as director and winemaker since 2019. American oak ageing remains part of its classic Rioja range, alongside work with individual vineyard parcels and less widely planted varieties.
