AboutBlackbird Vineyards
Blackbird Vineyards emerged in Napa’s Oak Knoll District in 2003 around a small vineyard planted with Merlot and Cabernet Franc in a former walnut orchard in the 1990s. Its name comes from the old association between Merlot and ‘little blackbird.’ Winemaker Aaron Pott joined in 2007 after working in Bordeaux.
John and Julia Hinshaw became majority owners in 2019, and the winery remains focused on small-lot, Bordeaux-inspired wines under their direction. Merlot remains central to the blends, alongside Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon from selected Napa Valley sites.

Black cherry leads with toffee, cocoa powder, iris and subtle leather. The palate is full-bodied and focused, bringing brambly berries, roasted meat, blackcurrant, coffee and tobacco into a rich, concentrated core. Persistent acidity keeps the texture composed, while sweet, velvety tannins carry the layered fruit and savoury detail through a long finish.
