AboutBlack Chalk
Winemaker Jacob Leadley started Black Chalk in 2015, working with Hampshire fruit to make English sparkling wine. The first wines, made from purchased local grapes, were released in 2018. In 2020, the project moved to established vineyards and converted farm buildings in the Test Valley, with its own winery ready just before harvest.
The small team works in both the vineyards and cellar, growing Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier over shallow chalk. Black Chalk makes only vintage wines.
Black Chalk Wild Rose
British Sparkling
Delicate pink in the glass, with lifted red berry aromas and a discreet pastry note. The palate is bright, precise and textural, balancing generous fruit with racy freshness. Extended lees ageing lends subtle breadth without dulling the wine's energy, and the finish is crisp, mouthwatering and composed. Serve with sashimi, maki, salty soy and ginger.
