AboutBernabeleva

In 1923, Dr Vicente Álvarez-Villamil bought the property at San Martín de Valdeiglesias, beneath the Sierra de Gredos, that became Bernabeleva. His descendants cared for the land and its old vines before a new generation revived the wine project. The name means “path of the bear”, echoed in the estate’s emblem. Native varieties shape its wines from this western edge of Madrid, with Garnacha central to the reds.

Strawberry, raspberry, violet, white pepper, herbs and balsamic notes appear with earthy, mineral and iron tones. The wine is made entirely from Garnacha grown on granite in vineyards between fifty and ninety years old. Grapes were harvested by hand, and fermentation took place with native yeasts in wood and concrete, with more than thirty-five days on skins. Ageing included eleven months in French oak and six months in stainless steel.
