German-born brothers Jacob and Frederick Beringer established their winery in St Helena, producing its first vintage in 1876. Jacob oversaw the vineyards and cellar, while Frederick financed the business and built the Rhine House in tribute to their Mainz roots.
The stone winery used gravity to move grapes and wine, with hillside tunnels providing a cool place for ageing. Beringer has operated continuously since 1876, and both the Rhine House and the winery’s historic district are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Jammy black fruit and red berries lead this easy-drinking Cabernet Sauvignon. Sweet vanilla and oak round the fruit, while a light thread of spice adds warmth without making the palate heavy. The texture is smooth and approachable, with enough dark-fruit character to accompany burgers, grilled beef, tomato-based pasta or aged cheddar. Serve just below room temperature after a short rest in the glass.
