Bacardi

Don Facundo Bacardí Massó founded Bacardí in Santiago de Cuba in 1862, after years spent developing a light-bodied rum. His wife, Doña Amalia, suggested the fruit bat as the family emblem after seeing bats in the distillery rafters. When its Cuban assets were confiscated in 1960, the family and company left the island and rebuilt the business internationally.
