Arnaldo-Caprai
Arnaldo-Caprai
Arnaldo Caprai founded his Montefalco estate in 1971 after acquiring forty-two hectares and turning his attention to the area’s native grapes. His son Marco assumed management in 1987 and made Sagrantino the centre of the family’s research and vineyard programme. The winery works in Umbria’s Montefalco growing area, where Sagrantino and Sangiovese underpin its principal red wines.
Long-term collaboration with researchers has helped the estate study clonal material, vineyard management and the character of Sagrantino. The producer’s own history distinguishes Arnaldo’s founding role from Marco’s later leadership and the subsequent expansion of the estate. Today the estate’s history is carried by the transition from Arnaldo’s 1971 founding to Marco’s long stewardship of Sagrantino research in Montefalco.
