AboutArgillae
Giuseppe Bonollo came from a distilling family and established Argillae in the hills north of Orvieto. His granddaughter Giulia Di Cosimo joined in 2015 and now leads the estate.
The property spreads across roughly 120 hectares between Allerona and Ficulle, with vineyards, olive groves and woodland. About 15 hectares of vines sit on clay, sand, limestone and fossil-rich soils. Local grapes such as Grechetto, Procanico, Verdello, Drupeggio and Montepulciano share the vineyards with international varieties, and pruning and harvest are done by hand. The cellar uses temperature-controlled stainless steel and separate underground rooms for ageing white and red wines in French oak.
Argillae 2023 Orvieto Superiore
Bright straw-yellow colour accompanies yellow flowers, citrus and tropical fruit. The palate is broad, complex, fruity and persistent, with mineral notes, refreshing acidity and a fresh finish. Grechetto, Procanico, Malvasia, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc form the blend. Fermentation and four to five months of ageing take place in stainless steel, followed by one month of bottle ageing.
