AboutAlheit Vineyards
Alheit Vineyards is a family wine business started in 2010 by husband-and-wife team Chris and Suzaan Alheit. After working harvests in both hemispheres, they returned to South Africa and settled at Hemelrand near Hermanus, building a project around Cape identity, old vineyards, dry farming and bush vines.
Their cellar approach is deliberately gentle: whole-cluster pressing, very light settling, wild fermentation in neutral vessels and extended time on lees before bottling.
Alheit Vineyards 2019 Huilkrans Chenin Blanc
South African White
Orchard fruit, pear skin and yellow apple unfold with citrus peel, ginger flower and a subtle savoury note. The palate is poised and energetic, combining bright layered acidity with saline drive and a gravelly mineral texture. Natural fermentation and a year on the lees in seasoned barrels bring depth without heaviness, leading to a precise, persistent finish.
