Bual
Blandy’s 2011 Bual Colheita Madeira
Hand-harvested Bual matures under the canteiro system in 650-litre American oak casks until bottling. Amber-gold colour accompanies toasted walnut, crystallized fig and date, and dried-fruit cake. Rounded and medium-sweet, the wine has biscuit and vanilla butter-cookie notes, fresh acidity and a long finish. It contains twenty percent alcohol, carries the DOP Madeira designation and comes from Calheta on Madeira.
Blandy’s 10 Year Old Bual Madeira 3 L
Rich raisin, fig and orange-marmalade aromas sit over caramel, vanilla and toasted walnut. The palate is medium-sweet and concentrated, with maple-like depth balanced by Madeira’s firm acidity, so the sweetness remains energetic rather than heavy. Dried fruit and gentle spice carry through a long, complex finish. Serve lightly chilled with blue cheese, nut tart or caramelized desserts, or pour a small glass after dinner.
Blandy’s 1957 Bual Madeira
Toffee, walnut and polished wood are joined by vanilla, dark chocolate and candied citrus. The palate is full-bodied and medium-sweet, yet vivid acidity keeps the mature richness in balance. Fig, date, orange marmalade and warm spice unfold through a long, gently warming finish, with a subtle balsamic lift. Serve slightly cool in small pours with blue cheese, fruitcake, nuts or dark chocolate.
