Winery Zodi 2020 Kvishkhuri Amber
Honey and field flowers mark the aromas of this full-skin-contact amber wine. Kvishkhuri comes from sixty-year-old vines in a one-hectare vineyard. Skin contact lasts one month, and the wine ages for twenty months in qvevri. The producer works in Imereti in western Georgia, using minimal-intervention methods that add or remove nothing beyond a small sulphur addition before bottling. The estate seeks to preserve forgotten local grape varieties.
Vazisubani Estate 2020 Kisi Qvevri
Apricot, dried fruit and roasted nuts define this dry amber wine. Estate-grown Kisi is hand-picked and partly destemmed, then fermented spontaneously with native yeast in qvevri. Skin contact lasts six months; the profile is full-bodied, supple and rich in fine tannins. The wine is unfiltered, with bentonite as the only fining material, and records 12.5 percent alcohol.
Baia’s Wine 2021 Krakhuna Imereti
Apricot, persimmon, citrus peel and herbal notes accompany stone fruit, honey and spice. The wine is full-bodied, with tannin and a long, dry finish. Krakhuna is the sole grape. Vines grow at three hundred twenty-four metres on free-draining alluvial soils. Fermentation takes place in qvevri with wild yeast, and the wine is unfiltered and low in sulphites.
Pheasant’s Tears 2019 Poliphonia
This light-bodied red brings together more than one hundred and seventeen indigenous Georgian grape varieties from the main vineyard in Sighnaghi, Kakheti. White, yellow, pink, golden, red and black grapes are fermented and aged in qvevri, followed by further time in stainless steel. The wine is medium-bodied, with high acidity, and contains twelve and a half percent alcohol.
Nadelebi 2022 Qvevri Kisi
Orange blossom, honey, black tea and dried apricot shape the aromas. Dried peach, orange zest and floral notes appear in an aromatic, rich profile. This is an orange wine. Kisi grapes, including skins and stems, spent seven months in qvevri. The fruit came from organic vineyards in Kakheti, and fermentation used wild yeast. The wine was made without additives.
Napheri 2023 Rkatsiteli Amber Wine
The wine is golden amber, with orange blossom, caramel and grass. Honey, pineapple, lemon, spiced orange and toast appear on a medium-bodied, round palate with smooth texture, balanced structure and a long finish. Made entirely from Rkatsiteli grown around Gurjaani in Kakheti, it ferments with half its skins for three months in qvevri and then matures further in qvevri.
Gvantsa’s Wine 2021 Otskhanuri Sapere Qvevri
Dark cherry, pomegranate, herbs and smoke appear in a fresh, juicy red with cool tannins and pronounced acidity. Fresh blueberry is also present. The wine is made entirely from Otskhanuri Sapere grown in Imereti. Fermentation begins spontaneously in qvevri, and maturation lasts nine months before unfiltered bottling. Its colour is dark ruby, and the profile is medium-bodied and persistent.
Anapea Village 2020 Margo Kvareli Red
Blackberry, blackcurrant and ripe red fruit appear with ripe cherry, wild berries and honey. The palate is round and full-bodied, with a long finish. Made entirely from estate-grown Saperavi, the wine is fermented on white-grape skins. It is certified organic and is also identified as sustainable, minimally intervened and vegan. This was the first release of the experimental cuvée.
Vazisubani Estate 2020 Saperavi Qvevri
Ripe cherry, mulberry and blackberry open, followed by pomegranate, liquorice and dark spice. The palate is full and savoury, with concentrated fruit balanced by bright acidity and firm, well-shaped tannins. Cocoa, balsamic tones and a restrained earthy note add depth through the middle. Structured without feeling heavy, it finishes long with dark fruit, spice and a measured bitter edge.
