Châteauneuf-du-Pape AOC
Château Cabrières 1979 Châteauneuf-du-Pape
Dried cherry and black raspberry sit beneath a fully mature, savoury bouquet. Leather, wild game, roasted coffee and dark spice lead, with forest floor and earth adding further depth. The palate is medium-bodied and resolved, its softened tannins framing the remaining red fruit. Gentle warmth carries the wine through a persistent finish of dried herbs, spice, leather and a distinctly earthy note.
Domaine Pierre Usseglio & Fils Cuvée de Mon Aïeul 2012 Châteauneuf-du-Pape
Lush red fruit and bramble open with black pepper, garrigue and warm spice. With air, plum, black cherry, leather and sandalwood broaden the aromatic profile. The palate is full-bodied and velvety, with integrated tannins and enough acidity to keep the ripe fruit measured. Liquorice and roasted herbs add savoury depth, while a saline edge brings focus. The finish is long and layered, carrying cherry, spice and Provençal herbs.
Clos Saint Jean 2018 La Combe des Fous Châteauneuf-du-Pape
Blackcurrant, black cherry and pomegranate lead a deep, expressive nose, joined by lavender, peppery garrigue, graphite and a touch of rose. The palate is full-bodied and richly layered, yet seamless tannins and fresh energy keep the wine from feeling heavy. Liquorice, tobacco and subtle white chocolate add savoury depth before a plush, velvety finish. Decant generously and serve with lamb shoulder, grilled beef or Provençal herbs and mushrooms.
