Jean-Étienne Chermette 2021 Beaujolais Gamay

Raspberry, blackberry and blackcurrant define the fruit profile. The wine comes from roughly seventy-year-old Gamay vines on dark granite. Traditional Beaujolais vinification uses whole bunches and semi-carbonic maceration, with five to six days in concrete tanks. Fermentation and maturation for the producer’s Beaujolais wines take place in concrete and stainless steel to retain fruit and freshness. Indigenous yeasts are used, with no chemical inputs added during vinification.

About Jean-Étienne Chermette
Jean-Étienne Chermette comes from a Saint-Vérand winegrowing family with roots in the seventeenth century. After studies in oenology and international wine business, plus harvest experience abroad, he joined the domaine in 2017 and became manager of Famille Chermette in 2023. His wines carry a dove emblem.
His range draws on eleven hectares of vines averaging about forty years old. The sites include dark plagiogranite around Saint-Vérand and clay-limestone parcels planted with Pinot Noir. His Gamay is made with whole-cluster semi-carbonic fermentation and moderate extraction; the crus may mature in old foudres.
