Cakebread Cellars 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley

Fresh smoky cassis, blackberry and boysenberry appear with cedar, black-tea spice and sweet oak. The palate is concentrated, with black fruit, firm structure and a long savoury finish. The blend is seventy-eight percent Cabernet Sauvignon, sixteen percent Merlot, four percent Cabernet Franc and two percent Malbec. Fermentation took place in stainless steel, followed by twenty months in French oak, thirty-five percent new. Alcohol is 14.2 percent.

About Cakebread Cellars
A photography assignment brought Jack Cakebread to Napa Valley in 1972, where he and Dolores used a $2,500 book advance as the down payment on a Rutherford ranch. They founded Cakebread Cellars in 1973, and its first wine was a small release of Chardonnay from that vintage. The family’s involvement now spans three generations.
Its vineyards now stretch from Napa’s varied districts to cool Anderson Valley, with gentle cellar work intended to preserve their differences. Food remains part of the winery’s character, from Dolores Cakebread’s garden and cookbooks to its welcoming approach to hospitality. The winery is Napa Green certified.
