Blandy’s 2011 Bual Colheita Madeira

Hand-harvested Bual matures under the canteiro system in 650-litre American oak casks until bottling. Amber-gold colour accompanies toasted walnut, crystallized fig and date, and dried-fruit cake. Rounded and medium-sweet, the wine has biscuit and vanilla butter-cookie notes, fresh acidity and a long finish. It contains twenty percent alcohol, carries the DOP Madeira designation and comes from Calheta on Madeira.

About Blandy's
John Blandy and his brothers Thomas and George founded their Madeira wine-shipping and trading business in 1811. By 1824, the family had assembled the buildings that became the Funchal Wine Lodge, with warm lofts for long cask maturation. Blandy’s remains under family control within the Madeira Wine Company.
The house uses two heat-based ageing methods, canteiro and estufagem, to mature its Madeira. Grape spirit is added at different stages of fermentation to create styles ranging from dry to richly sweet.
