About Phantom Creek Estates
Richter Bai founded Phantom Creek Estates in the Okanagan in 2016 after acquiring Becker and Phantom Creek vineyards, with a focus on Bordeaux grape varieties. At Becker Vineyard, Helmut Becker had planted more than thirty European varieties in a 1977 trial; Bordeaux red varieties followed in 1993. Richard Cleave established Phantom Creek Vineyard on Black Sage Bench in 1996, planting Cabernet-family grapes and Syrah.
The estate also draws fruit from Kobau, alongside Becker and Phantom Creek. The estate reports organic certification for its vineyards and winemaking, with further work on organic and biodynamic methods. Grapes are picked by hand; reds are sorted twice before fermentation in oak, while whites are pressed in whole bunches and ferment with ambient yeasts in large oak casks.
