The palate is medium-bodied and composed, with smooth, well-integrated tannins supporting generous fruit without becoming heavy. About Álvaro Castro
Quinta da Pellada records winemaking at the estate as far back as 1527, but its modern chapter began when civil engineer Álvaro de Castro inherited the property in 1980. He restored a family winemaking tradition that had paused for a generation and released the first Quinta de Saes label with the 1989 harvest. His daughter Maria, trained in oenology, joined the estate officially in 2001.
The vineyards of Pellada, Saes and Outeiro sit near Vila Nova de Tazém in Dão's Serra da Estrela subregion, planted between roughly 450 and 600 metres on granite-derived soils. Working with native Dão grapes, the estate aims to let the character of each vineyard show in its wines.
