Château d’Aydie, owned by the Laplace family, is widely recognized as a top producer of both Madiran and Pacherenc du Vic Bihl. Frédéric Laplace, who inherited the family business – which dates back to 1759 - took charge of the estate in the 1920s becoming a pioneer winemaker of the region. Robert Parker refers to the Laplace family as "One of the best producers" of wine in the Southwest

The Nebbiolo that comes off this property is some of the best in La Morra. Even in challenging vintages the Monfalletto terroir yields Nebbiolo that is both powerful and supple. Insiders know that this is one of the best terroirs in Barolo.
95 Points, Robert Parker: "The house style prizes muscle and brawn in this vintage that lends itself handily to these qualities. Pressed cherry and blackberry cede to licorice, cured tobacco and iron ore."
94 Points, Wine Spectator: "A plump, cherry-, raspberry- and tar-flavored red, showing accents of mineral, tobacco and eucalyptus, with a swath of solid tannins guarding the finish. Balanced and long, this should come around soon."
94 Points, James Suckling: "Attractive aromas of black cherry with strawberry and hints of vanilla and cedar. Some sandalwood. Medium body. Ultra-fine tannins integrate beautifully into the wine. Plenty of fruit flavors and length. Juicy."
Reverdito Barolo Ascheri 2016
$129.99
Vineyard: La Morra
Production: 4,000 bottles
Soil: Marl
Barolo produced here is best described as “warm-hearted”. Michele’s Barolo Ascheri comes from the classic chalky soils of La Morra about 250 meters up the steep hillside, inter-planted with several types of grasses and beans to aid biodiversity and soil structure. The resulting wine has an enticing nose of flowers, ripe strawberries and dark cherries, and a good mouthful of plummy ripe elegant fruit. This deceptively mid-weight Barolo has a ton to offer.
