In 2012, d’Arenberg winery in McLaren Vale turned 100 years old. Four generations of the Osborn family have tended vineyards and made wines with the distinctive red striped label. From humble beginnings as grape growers, then bulk winemakers, d’Arenberg is now a name that has a strong following throughout the world as producers of premium Australian wines.

Barolo produced here is best described as “warm-hearted”. Michele’s Barolo Ascheri comes from the classic chalky soils of La Morra about 250 meters up the steep hillside, inter-planted with several types of grasses and beans to aid biodiversity and soil structure. The resulting wine has an enticing nose of flowers, ripe strawberries and dark cherries, and a good mouthful of plummy ripe elegant fruit. This deceptively mid-weight Barolo has a ton to offer.
