Escaravailles means scarab, or beetle, in Occitan, the language of Provinçal France. It's also what they called the black-clad Catholic monks of the southern Rhône. So, that's what Jean-Louis Ferran named his domaine in 1953. He purchased several ideally placed hillside parcels of vines in the Rasteau, Cairanne and Roaix regions of Côtes-du-Rhône. The company practises organic and sustainable viticulture, and all work on the estate to done by hand on vines ranging from 30 to 60 years old.

La Gabinele Belandes Minervois 2015
$47.99
Grenache 40 %, Syrah 60 %
An incredibly expressive bouquet: peony, violet, white pepper, cocoa, eucalyptus and star anise. An impressive palate from the outset with powerful flavour. The body is vibrant, unctuous and sensual leading to a mineral and acid driven finish. With its power and juiciness, Bélandes goes perfectly with braised lamb, roasted rabbit or roast duck.
Reverdito Barolo Bricco Cogni 2016
$149.99
Vineyard: La Morra
Production: 4,000 bottles
Soil: Marl
From Michele Reverdito’s favourite cru comes Barolo Bricco Cogni, planted by Silvano Reverdito in 1967, the year he was married. An aromatic powerhouse in 2016 with dark cherry, plum, lavender, spice and licorice all melding beautifully together. This is super-impressive in the early going. Truly a Barolo of class and character, the Bricco Cogni has so much to offer.
Montezemolo Barolo Monfalleto 2018
$104.99
The Nebbiolo that comes off this property is some of the best in La Morra. Even in challenging vintages the Monfalletto terroir yields Nebbiolo that is both powerful and supple. Insiders know that this is one of the best terroirs in Barolo.
94 points, James Suckling - ‘Muscular and buff for the vintage with plenty of plum, terra-cotta and dry soil aromas and favors. Full body, flavorful finish’. – J Suckling (2012 Vintage)
Reverdito Barolo Ascheri 2016
$129.99
Vineyard: La Morra
Production: 4,000 bottles
Soil: Marl
Barolo produced here is best described as “warm-hearted”. Michele’s Barolo Ascheri comes from the classic chalky soils of La Morra about 250 meters up the steep hillside, inter-planted with several types of grasses and beans to aid biodiversity and soil structure. The resulting wine has an enticing nose of flowers, ripe strawberries and dark cherries, and a good mouthful of plummy ripe elegant fruit. This deceptively mid-weight Barolo has a ton to offer.
