Château Mouton Rothschild 1988 Pauillac

Classic and mature, with cassis, plum and red berry framed by cedar, walnut, pencil shavings, tobacco and earthy mineral notes. The palate is round and balanced, showing fresh acidity, ripe tannins, vanilla and a gently drying woody edge on the long finish. Bottle condition matters; stand upright, decant carefully for about two hours and serve with veal or roast lamb.

About Mouton Rothschild
Château Mouton Rothschild took its name in 1853, when Baron Nathaniel de Rothschild bought Château Brane-Mouton at auction in Pauillac. Baron Philippe took charge in 1922 and, two years later, required the entire harvest to be bottled at the château. Jean Carlu designed the 1924 label; the annual artist-label tradition began in 1945.
Mouton was elevated to First Growth in 1973. Its Pauillac vineyard lies on deep gravel over a clay-limestone base, with gentle slopes that aid drainage and exposure to sunlight. Cabernet Sauvignon is central to the estate’s Pauillac wines.
